Hilversum | 2015 | residential + commercial | ADP architecten
This quirky project in the centre of Hilversum is the result of local politicians interfering with architecture. Initially the much smaller, derelict building was supposed to be demolished to make place for a larger, modern residential building.
As a compromise, the new building has a cut-and-paste façade with elements of the old building repeated to fit the new design. We reconstructed many old façade details with new materials and building techniques.
The other half of the building kept the original design. Despite the totally different façades, the apartments behind it have the same floorplan.
I conducted all the drawings and details for the execution phase.
